The Scottish club St Mirren has announced the appointment of former Scotland international John Hughes as its new head coach. The move comes after the club suffered a poor season in which they finished 18th in the Scottish Championship.
John Hughes is no stranger to coaching at this level, having previously managed teams such as Hibernian and Dundee United. He is known for his tactical nous and ability to get the best out of players, so it's hoped that he can help turn around the fortunes of St Mirren.
Speaking about the appointment, St Mirren chairman Graham Wallace said: "We're delighted to have someone with John's experience and track record join our staff. We know he'll be able to bring a lot of valuable insights and ideas to our squad."
Hughes himself was equally excited by the opportunity to work at St Mirren: "I'm really looking forward to getting started here. I've been following St Mirren from afar over the years, and I think the club has a bright future ahead of it."
St Mirren's fortunes have certainly taken a downturn in recent seasons, but with Hughes at the helm, there's hope that things will improve. With his knowledge of the game and his track record of success, he should be able to help guide the club back towards the top flight of Scottish football.
