Monaco has continued its impressive form in Ligue 1 with a narrow victory over Strasbourg at the Stade Louis II on Sunday evening. The match was decided by a penalty shootout after both teams had played out a goalless draw for much of the second half.
The match was dominated by Monaco's attacking play, with Benjamin Mendy and Thomas Lemar creating numerous chances for their teammates. However, it was Strasbourg who finally broke through when Maxime Lopez headed home from a corner in the 85th minute.
In the subsequent shoot-out, Mendy missed his spot-kick but Lemar converted his attempt to secure Monaco's first win in four matches. The result sees Monaco move up to fourth place in the table, two points behind Paris Saint-Germain and one ahead of Marseille.
Ben Yedder was the hero of the day, scoring the only goal of the match from the spot-kick. The French striker has been in excellent form this season, having scored six goals in just seven league appearances.
The victory is a welcome boost for Monaco, which has struggled to find its groove since the departure of former manager Leonardo Jardim earlier in the season. With the likes of Mendy, Lemar and Yedder in top form, Monaco will be looking to build on this success and continue its push for a top-four finish.
